White Sox designate veteran OF Austin Hays for assignment

The Chicago White Sox designated former All-Star outfielder Austin Hays for ​assignment on Wednesday.

Hays, ‌who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list, batted .233 with a homer and ‌seven ​RBIs in 12 ⁠games.

Hays, 31, landed ⁠on the 10-day IL on May 4 with a left calf strain ​and was transferred to the 60-day IL ⁠on June ⁠9.

He batted .250 with ​six home runs and 17 ​RBIs and 17 strikeouts ‌in a 20-game rehab assignnebt with Triple-A Charlotte.

An All-Star with Baltimore in ⁠2023, Hays is a career .262 hitter with 84 home runs ⁠and ‌319 RBIs in ⁠694 games with ​the ‌Orioles (2017, 2019-24), Philadelphia Phillies (2024), ​Cincinnati ⁠Reds (2025) and White Sox.

Chicago signed Hays to a one-year, $6 million deal during free agency this winter.
