Reports: Astros swap Spencer Arrighetti for Blue Jays’ Daulton Varsho

The Houston Astros are finalizing a deal to acquire center fielder Daulton Varsho from the Toronto Blue ​Jays in exchange for right-handed starting ‌pitcher Spencer Arrighetti, The Athletic and MLB.com reported Monday.

Houston, which began the week with a 2 1/2-game lead in the American League West, ‌added ​a former Gold Glove ⁠winner with playoff ⁠experience to its outfield.

Varsho, 30, is batting .243 this season with seven home runs, 19 doubles, 26 RBIs and nine stolen ​bases over 99 games. In 747 career games for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2020-22) ⁠and Blue Jays (2023-26), Varsho ⁠owns a .229 batting average with ​106 home runs, 121 doubles, 321 RBIs ​and 62 steals.

He won the Gold Glove ‌in 2024 and has totaled just three errors since the start of the 2025 season.

Arrighetti, 26, is in his ⁠third major league season since Houston selected him in the sixth round of the 2021 draft. ⁠In ‌17 starts this year, he ⁠has posted a 7-5 record with ​a ‌4.60 ERA, 87 strikeouts and ​50 walks ⁠in 88 innings of work.

Across 53 games (52 starts) for the Astros, Arrighetti went 15-23 with a 4.66 ERA, 289 strikeouts and 135 walks in 268 1/3 innings.
