US Commodity Futures Trading Commission fines George Santos for alleged manipulative trading

WASHINGTON, July 31 (Reuters) – The top U.S. derivatives ​regulator on ‌Friday said it had ordered disgraced former Republican Congressman ‌George ​Santos to ⁠pay $35,000 for ⁠alleged manipulative trading.

Santos, who was expelled from the House ​of Representatives in 2023, ⁠made nearly $18,000 ⁠by trading ​on prediction markets ​in February of this ‌year that invited users to bet on ⁠whether he would personally attend President Donald Trump’s ⁠State ‌of the ⁠Union address, ​the ‌Commodity Futures Trading ​Commission ⁠said in a statement.
