Charlie Woods’ week in Texas came to a close Thursday when he missed the secondary cut at the Junior PGA Championship in Frisco, Texas.
The 17-year-old son of Tiger Woods struggled in his third round, posting a 5-over-par 77 on the Fields Ranch East course at PGA Frisco. He dropped to 6 over par for the week, with the cut projected at even par as play wound down Thursday.
Charlie Woods opened the tournament with rounds of 75 and 70 to make the 36-hole cut.
The native of Jupiter, Fla., went out in 1-over 37 before any chance of advancing evaporated on the back nine. He made double bogey at the par-4 10th before bogeying the ensuing three holes.
After another bogey at No. 16, the Florida State commit managed a brighter finish with back-to-back birdies.
Last year, Woods tied for ninth in the Junior PGA Championship.
A week ago, Woods failed to reach the match-play portion of the U.S. Junior Amateur, coming up short in a playoff after stroke play at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa.
Jaden Soong of Burbank, Calif., was the leader in the clubhouse as of 5:45 p.m. CT after his round of 69 moved him to 8-under 208 through 54 holes. Kailer Stone of Alameda, Calif., held the halfway lead but was 2 over through 13 holes to slip into second at 7 under.
