The Arizona Diamondbacks placed outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on the 10-day injured list on Saturday because of a strained right adductor.

In a corresponding move, the Diamondbacks recalled catcher Adrian Del ‌Castillo from Triple-A Reno. They also selected the contract of right-hander Gerardo Carrillo to the 40-man roster and optioned him to Reno.

Gurriel, 32, is batting .207 (36-for-174) with two home runs and 21 ‌RBIs in 47 games this season. He experienced some discomfort during a swing in the final game before the All-Star break on July 12. Gurriel went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly in the team’s 5-4 home loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.

He began the year on the injured list while recovering from the torn right anterior cruciate ligament he sustained last September. Gurriel played his first game on April 18 but was out from May 23 to mid-June because of a ‌strained left hamstring.

An All-Star in 2023, Gurriel is a career .271 hitter with 131 homers and 512 RBIs in 922 regular-season games for the Toronto Blue Jays (2018-22) and Diamondbacks. He’s also batted .270 with three homers and 11 RBIs in 19 playoff games.

Del Castillo, 26, is batting .185 (28-for-151) with five homers and ‌23 RBIs in 51 games for Arizona this season. He is a career .234 batter ‌with 13 homers and 59 RBIs in 120 games since 2024.

Carrillo, 27, is 7-3 with four saves, a 4.15 ERA, 28 walks and 57 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings over 33 relief appearances this season with Reno. He has not appeared in a major league game.
