The Athletics placed All-Star first baseman Nick Kurtz on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right thumb capsule sprain.

Kurtz, 23, sat out Friday’s 14-1 setback to the ‌Chicago White Sox and also will miss the All-Star Game on Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Kurtz was set to be the American League starter at first base after Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (back) ‌of the Toronto Blue Jays pulled out.

Kurtz was replaced Saturday by Chicago White Sox rookie outfielder Tristan Peters, who hit for the cycle in Friday’s 14-1 win against the Athletics. Peters, 26, is batting .303 with six homers and 35 RBIs in 89 games.

Kurtz exited Wednesday’s 6-1 loss at Detroit after 1 1/2 innings but the club said the departure was due to illness. However, he also appeared to hurt the hand while trying to field a throw ‌in the bottom of the first. As the designated hitter, he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Thursday’s 4-1 loss to the Tigers.

He is batting .266 with 20 homers and 66 RBIs in 92 games. He was the 2025 AL Rookie of the Year with a .290 batting ‌average, 36 home runs and 86 RBIs in just 117 games.

Also on Saturday, ‌the Athletics recalled catcher Brian Serven from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Serven, 31, went 1-for-4 in Sunday’s 9-8 loss to the Miami Marlins, his lone game this season in the majors.

He is batting .308 with seven homers and 41 RBIs in 55 games with Las Vegas.
