WASHINGTON, July 9 (Reuters) – The International Monetary Fund on Thursday said it looks forward to engaging with ‌the U.S. Federal Reserve on the results of its planned review of forward guidance and how ‌it communicates about monetary policy.

IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack repeated recent remarks by senior IMF officials who said forward guidance had been a useful tool for central banks, particularly when interest rates were essentially at zero, but said it was natural for them to review their approach ‌now that rates had come up.

“With respect to the Fed in particular, they have talked about setting up a task force to look at communications, and ‌we very much look forward to engaging with ‌them on the findings of the task force and on their thinking about how communications can be adapted,” Kozack told a regular briefing.
