US makes available $281 million in grants for addiction and mental health programs

July 6 (Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said on Monday it ​is making available more ‌than $281 million in grant funding opportunities across 15 programs aimed at addressing addiction, overdose and mental illness.

The funding ‌opportunities, ​announced by the ⁠Substance Abuse and ⁠Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), will support programs focused on substance use disorder treatment, suicide prevention, ​trauma care, recovery services, workforce development and training for first ⁠responders.

• The largest ⁠funding opportunity, worth $68.2 million, ​will expand access to medication-assisted treatment ​for opioid use disorder.

• Other ‌programs include school-based mental health services, trauma care for children and overdose response training for ⁠first responders.

• The department also announced funding opportunities for community overdose prevention, integrated ⁠physical ‌and behavioral healthcare, and ⁠suicide prevention programs on ​college ‌campuses. Additionally, funding will ​be available ⁠for recovery support services and education initiatives focused on federal behavioral health privacy regulations.
