Report: Senators close to 4-year deal with D Jordan Spence

Restricted free agent defenseman Jordan Spence signed a four-year, $20 million extension with the Ottawa ​Senators, the team announced ‌Friday.

Spence, 25, recorded a career-best 31 points (seven goals, 24 assists) and a plus-15 rating in 73 games last season ‌with ​the Senators. He ⁠is coming off ⁠a two-year, $3 million contract.

The Senators acquired Spence from the Los Angeles Kings 12 months ago.

“Jordan was ​an excellent addition to our hockey club and proved to ⁠be a valuable ⁠asset on our blue ​line and stepped up when it ​counted last season,” Ottawa general manager ‌Steve Staios said in a news release. “We’re excited to have him as part of our ⁠core group.”

Spence has totaled 92 points (15 goals, 77 assists) and a plus-44 rating in ⁠253 ‌career games with the ⁠Los Angeles Kings and ​Senators. ‌He has one goal ​and one ⁠assist in 17 career playoff games.

The Australia native was selected by the Kings in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL Draft.
