Cleveland Guardians star third baseman Jose Ramirez underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a fractured hamate bone ‌in his left hand.

Ramirez, a seven-time All-Star, is expected to be sidelined for 5-7 weeks. ‌Dr. Thomas Graham performed the surgery in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania and removed the hook of Ramirez’s hamate bone, per the team.

Ramirez, 33, was injured during Saturday’s 3-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Ramirez reported pain after a fifth-inning at-bat in which ‌he fouled out to Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler.

Ramirez fractured his right hamate bone in 2019 and also underwent surgery.

Now in his 14th season with Cleveland, Ramirez ‌is batting just .239 this season, well below his ‌career .278 mark. He has 10 homers and 33 RBIs in 72 games.

Overall, Ramirez has 295 homers and 982 RBIs in 1,681 career games.
