Blue Jays star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. sat for the second straight day with lower back tightness ‌in Toronto’s Sunday home series finale vs. the New York Yankees.

Toronto manager John Schneider said Saturday that the issue ‌emerged as Friday’s 8-5 win played out. There was hope that rest would help Guerrero feel better and avoid his first career injured list stint in his eighth major league season.

“Back was a little tight (Friday), and he’s been kind of grinding a little bit, so just wanted to give him a blow,” ‌Schneider said.

Guerrero, 27, is hitting .280 with three homers and 27 RBIs in 68 games this season. His power numbers are down after he hit at least 23 homers in each ‌of the last five seasons. He’s also played at ‌least 156 games in each of the last five seasons.

The five-time All-Star has a career .288 batting average with 186 homers and 618 RBIs over 1,043 games with Toronto.
