China should ‘acknowledge the truth’ about Tiananmen, Taiwan president says

TAIPEI, June 4 (Reuters) – China should “acknowledge the truth” ​about what ‌happened 37 years ago on Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, ‌Taiwan ​President Lai ⁠Ching-te said ⁠on Thursday on the anniversary of an event ​Beijing treats as taboo.

“I ⁠sincerely hope ⁠that China ​can face up ​to the June 4 ‌incident of 37 years ago, acknowledge the ⁠truth, soothe the pain, and open the ⁠door ‌to reconciliation ⁠and dialogue,” ​Lai ‌said in ​a post ⁠on his Facebook page.
