Penguins re-sign F Evgeni Malkin for 21st season

Forward Evgeni Malkin will return for his 21st season with the ​Pittsburgh Penguins in ‌2026-27.

The team signed the pending free agent to a one-year, $5.5 million contract extension on ‌Tuesday.

Malkin, ​who turns ⁠40 on July ⁠31, recorded 61 points (19 goals, 42 assists) in 56 games in 2025-26.

The ​three-time Stanley Cup champion and seven-time All-Star ⁠made his ⁠NHL debut with Pittsburgh ​in 2006.

He won the ​Calder Trophy as the league’s ‌top rookie in 2006-07, the Hart Trophy as league MVP in ⁠2011-12, two Art Ross trophies as the NHL scoring leader (2008-09, 2011-12) ⁠and ‌the 2009 Conn ⁠Smythe Trophy as ​the ‌playoff MVP.

Malkin ranks ​second behind ⁠teammate Sidney Crosby in Penguins history in games (1,269). He ranks third in goals (533), assists (874) and points (1,407).
