Aaron Rai withdraws from Byron Nelson after PGA triumph

Aaron Rai is taking a well-earned week off after winning the ​PGA Championship, as ‌the Englishman withdrew from the upcoming CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Monday.

S.Y. Noh of South ‌Korea ​replaces Rai ⁠in the field ⁠off the alternate list.

Rai, 31, captured his first major championship Sunday at Aronimink ​Golf Club by going 6 under par ⁠for his ⁠final 10 holes to ​post a 5-under 65 ​for the round and 9 ‌under for the tournament.

He rose to 24th in the FedEx Cup standings ⁠and 15th in the Official World Golf Ranking thanks to the ⁠biggest ‌win of his ⁠career.

The Byron Nelson ​tees ‌off Thursday in McKinney, ​Texas, with ⁠defending champion Scottie Scheffler in the field along with fan favorite and fellow Texan Jordan Spieth.
