Jake Knapp (thumb) withdraws from PGA Championship

By Thomson Reuters May 11, 2026 | 6:31 PM

Jake Knapp will miss the PGA Championship due to an ongoing injury concern.

Knapp withdrew Monday from the second major of the ‌season with a left thumb sprain. Tom Hoge was first on the alternate list and will take Knapp’s place in the ‌156-man field this week at Aronimink Golf Club.

Knapp, 31, hasn’t played on tour since tying for 74th out of 82 players at the RBC Heritage. He hasn’t commented on the injury yet but it’s likely that it occurred at the Heritage.

Since then, he has withdrawn from the Cadillac Championship and the Truist Championship, a pair of $20 million signature events ‌in the lead-up to the PGA.

The injury has halted a promising season for Knapp, who had five top-10 finishes between January and March and placed 11th at the Masters.

Hoge, 36, earned his only PGA ‌Tour win at the 2022 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and ‌missed the cut at three majors last year. His only major top-10 came at the 2022 PGA Championship, where he tied for ninth.

Kevin Yu of Taiwan now rises to the first alternate.
