Blues waive F Mathieu Joseph

The St. Louis Blues placed forward Mathieu Joseph on unconditional waivers on Thursday for the purpose ​of terminating his contract.

Joseph, 29, ‌last played for St. Louis on Feb. 2. He is in the final year of a four-year contract that he signed with ‌Ottawa ​in July 2022 and ⁠can become an ⁠unrestricted free agent at season’s end. If he clears waivers, Joseph will be a free agent able to sign ​immediately with any team.

He has 11 points (two goals, nine assists), a ⁠minus-5 rating, four penalty ⁠minutes, 28 blocks and 85 ​hits in 39 games this season.

He also ​has one goal in two games ‌with Springfield, the Blues’ affiliate in the American Hockey League. He was reassigned to Springfield on Feb. 27 ⁠after clearing waivers.

For his NHL career, Joseph has 160 points (61 goals, 99 assists), a plus-8 ⁠rating, 200 ‌penalty minutes, 207 blocks ⁠and 755 hits in 459 ​regular-season ‌games for the Tampa Bay ​Lightning (2018-22), Senators (2022-24) ⁠and Blues. He won back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021.

Tampa Bay selected Joseph in the fourth round of the 2015 NHL Draft.
