Grizzlies signing 40-year-old big man Taj Gibson

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed 40-year-old forward/center Taj Gibson, who will be playing his ​17th NBA season with ‌his eighth franchise.

The team confirmed the deal with a post on social media on Thursday night but no ‌terms ​were disclosed.

His agent, ⁠Mark Bartelstein of ⁠Priority Sports, told ESPN it is a two-year deal. HoopsHype reported the contract is guaranteed for ​the rest of this season and includes a non-guaranteed $3.8 ⁠million salary for 2026-27.

Gibson, ⁠who has appeared in ​1,002 NBA games, last played for ​the Charlotte Hornets in 2024-25 ‌and averaged 2.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 11.1 minutes in 37 games (11 starts).

A first-round pick (26th ⁠overall) by Chicago in 2009, Gibson has career averages of 8.4 points and ⁠5.7 rebounds ‌for the Bulls, ⁠Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, ​New ‌York Knicks, Washington Wizards, ​Detroit Pistons ⁠and Hornets.

According to ESPN, Gibson would become the 35th player ever to appear in an NBA game after his 40th birthday.
