Polish consumer sentiment mixed in February, with current index up, expectations down

WARSAW, Feb 18 (Reuters) – Polish consumer sentiment was mixed in February as households expressed improved views of the economic situation but weaker expectations for ​consumption in the months ahead, a report ‌from the statistics office showed on Wednesday.

The Current Consumer Confidence Index rose to minus 9.1, an increase of 0.5 percentage points from January.

Among the components of this indicator, higher values were reported ‌for ​the country’s current economic situation and ⁠the financial situation of ⁠households – increases of 2.5 percentage points and 0.4 percentage points, respectively.

However, households were more cautious about their immediate spending capacity. The indicator measuring the current ​possibility of making important purchases dropped by 3.2 percentage points, while assessments of the current financial situation ⁠of households slipped slightly.

Despite the ⁠monthly volatility, the overall current confidence index ​stood 5.7 points higher than in February 2025.

The Leading Consumer ​Confidence Index, which reflects expected consumption trends in ‌the coming months, fell by 0.3 percentage points to minus 7.0.

The decline stemmed mainly from more pessimistic views on future saving possibilities, which dropped 3.7 points, and ⁠concerns about the future level of unemployment, down 0.7 points.

Not all components in this index deteriorated. Expectations for the future ⁠economic situation of ‌the country improved markedly, rising by ⁠2.7 percentage points, while views on the ​future ‌financial situation of households edged up by ​0.4 points.

Despite ⁠the monthly dip, consumer expectations remain stronger than a year earlier. The leading indicator improved by 3.8 percentage points compared with February 2025.

Both consumer confidence indices can range from minus 100 to plus 100.
