Thunder to sit G Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (abdominal strain) through All-Star break

The Oklahoma City Thunder are shutting down All-Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander until after the All-Star ‍break when he will be re-evaluated for an abdominal strain, the team said Wednesday.

The reigning NBA Most Valuable Player, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 31.8 points (second in the ‌league) as well as ‌6.4 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 33.3 minutes in starting 49 games for the defending NBA champion Thunder.

Gilgeous-Alexander, 27, will miss Wednesday’s ​game against the host San Antonio Spurs as well as dates ‍with Houston on ​Saturday, at the Los Angeles ​Lakers on Monday, at the Phoenix ‍Suns on Feb. 11 and the visiting Milwaukee Bucks on Feb. 12.

The three-time All-Star and MVP of the 2025 NBA Finals will not be ‍available for Team World in the new U.S. vs. World format for the All-Star ‍Game ‍on Feb. 15 in Inglewood, ​Calif.

The Thunder host the ​Brooklyn ⁠Nets on Feb. 20 in ‌their first game after the break.

Gilgeous-Alexander has scored 20 or more points in 121 consecutive games, five shy of tying Wilt Chamberlain’s league record of 126.
