Pens F Bryan Rust suspended 3 games for head shot

The NHL suspended Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust for three games on Tuesday ‍for an illegal check to the head of Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser.

Rust received a minor penalty on the play, which occurred ‌at the end of ‌Pittsburgh’s 3-2 road win on Sunday.

The Penguins’ next three games are at home against the Chicago Blackhawks (Thursday), New ​York Rangers (Saturday) and Ottawa Senators (Monday).

Rust, 33, is in his 12th ‍NHL season with ​the Penguins, who drafted ​the Michigan native in the ‍third round in 2010. In 47 games this season, he has posted 39 points (18 goals, 21 assists).

In 685 regular-season games, Rust ‍has 476 points (221 goals, 255 assists) and is a two-time Stanley Cup ‍winner. Over ‍79 postseason games, ​he has compiled 35 ​points (21 ⁠goals, 14 assists).

Boeser, 28, was ‌placed on injured reserve Monday. He has 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists) in 50 games this season, his 10th with the Canucks.
