WASHINGTON, Jan 22 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday called for former U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith, who unsuccessfully prosecuted him, to be “prosecuted for his actions,” saying on social media without providing evidence that Smith has committed “large scale perjury.”
Trump said his comments were based on Smith’s testimony before Congress earlier on Thursday. It was the first time he publicly testified since stepping down as special counsel last year ahead of Trump returning to the White House.
During that testimony, Smith said he believed that Trump’s Justice Department will find some way to indict him.
