China’s population falls for a fourth straight year

BEIJING, Jan 19 (Reuters) – China’s population fell ‍for a fourth consecutive year in 2025 with ‌experts cautioning ‌that the trend will worsen in the coming years.

The ​National Bureau of ‍Statistics said ​the total ​number of ‍people in China dropped by 339 million to 1.405 ‍billion in 2025, a faster decline ‍than ‍in ​2024.
