Blue Jackets D Brendan Smith (knee) out 3-4 months

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Brendan Smith will be sidelined three-to-four ‍months after surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee, the team announced Thursday.

Smith, ‌who had the ‌surgery on Tuesday, sustained the injury during a 4-1 win over the Ottawa Senators ​on Dec. 29.

Smith, 36, recorded two ‍assists and ​11 penalty minutes ​in 15 games this ‍season.

He has totaled 146 points (39 goals, 107 assists) and 798 penalty minutes in 741 career ‍games with the Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers, ‍Carolina ‍Hurricanes, New Jersey ​Devils, Dallas Stars ​and ⁠Blue Jackets. He ‌was selected by the Red Wings with the 27th overall pick of the 2007 NHL Draft.
