US Homeland Security: one dead in Minneapolis shooting amid immigration surge

WASHINGTON, Jan 7 (Reuters) – One person is dead ‍after ICE officers on a large-scale immigration operation in ‌Minneapolis shot someone ‌who the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said had “weaponized” their ​vehicle, according to DHS ‍spokeswoman ​Tricia McLaughlin.

“An ​ICE officer, fearing ‍for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement ‍and the safety of the public, ‍fired ‍defensive shots,” ​McLaughlin wrote ​in ⁠a post on ‌X.
