Canada’s Ivey PMI shows activity expanding in December

TORONTO, Jan 7 (Reuters) – Canadian economic activity expanded in December as ‍employment increased at the fastest pace in 10 months, Ivey Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) data showed ‌on Wednesday.

The seasonally ‌adjusted index rose to 51.9 last month from 48.4 in November.

The Ivey PMI measures the ​month to month variation in economic ‍activity as ​indicated by a ​panel of purchasing managers ‍from across Canada. A reading above 50 indicates an increase in activity.

The gauge of employment ‍increased to an adjusted 53.0 from 48.0 in November, posting ‍its ‍highest level since ​February, while the ​prices ⁠index was at ‌63.2, down from 66.1.

The unadjusted PMI dipped to 43.3 from 44.5.
