Washington Spirit defender Gabby Carle signed a contract that extends through the 2029 season, the team announced on Tuesday.
Financial terms were not disclosed by the team on the deal, which is retroactive to the start of the 2025 campaign.
“D.C. is a special place and it’s where I want to be,” Carle, a Canadian international, said in a statement. “I’m excited to be extending my time with the Spirit and I’m looking forward to helping the team reach its goals over the next four years.”
Carle, 27, recorded three goal contributions in 83 total matches for Washington.
“Keeping Gabby with the club for the next four seasons is important for our back line,” Spirit general manager Nathan Minion said. “She is one of the most versatile defenders and underrated players in our league and we’re thrilled to maintain our strong defending third for the foreseeable future.”
Carle has competed for Canada at two FIFA Women’s World Cups (2019, 2023) and two Olympic Games (2021, 2024). She helped her country capture gold in Tokyo in 2021.
