The New York Jets granted wide receiver Allen Lazard’s request to be released on Tuesday.
Lazard, who reportedly is seeking to play for a contending team, signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the Jets ahead of the 2023 season
Should Lazard be claimed off waivers, the team that picks him up will be responsible to pay the final three weeks ($291,667) of his 2025 base salary of $1.75 million.
Lazard, 30, has 10 catches for 70 yards and one touchdown in 10 games (two starts) this season. The 6-foot-5, 227-pound widrout joined the Jets shortly after the arrival of former Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers.
He has totaled 239 catches for 3,147 yards and 28 TDs in 93 career games (64 starts) for the Packers (2018-22) and Jets.
Also on Tuesday, the Jets released quarterback Adrian Martinez and signed linebacker Ochaun Mathis to the practice squad.
Martinez, 25, was added to the practice squad last Wednesday and elevated to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars but did not see action.
