The Detroit Tigers agreed to a one-year contract with right-hander Kenley Jansen, according to ‍multiple media reports.

Jansen, a four-time All-Star, is one of the most prominent closers in league history. He is fourth all-time in career saves ‌with 476. He is ‌only two saves away from tying Lee Smith (478) for third all-time.

The veteran is 38 years old, but he is coming off a strong campaign with the Los Angeles ‍Angels. In 62 appearances, he recorded a 2.59 ERA, 0.949 WHIP, and 29 saves.

He ‍was named the American League Reliever of the Month for July; in 11.1 innings, he allowed zero runs, four hits, and ‍zero walks, while striking out 13.

Jansen will join right-hander Kyle Finnegan to form ‍a ‍strong bullpen tandem for Detroit.

Jansen spent his first 12 seasons (2010-21) with the Los Angeles ‌Dodgers and is 54-40 with a 2.57 ERA in 933 relief appearances. He also pitched for the Atlanta Braves (2022) and Boston Red Sox (2023-24).
