Capitals F Ryan Leonard (shoulder) out 3-4 weeks

Washington Capitals forward Ryan Leonard will be sidelined three ‍to four weeks with a shoulder injury, the team announced Thursday.

Leonard was injured by a ‌hit from ‌Anaheim defenseman Jacob Trouba during the Capitals’ 4-3 shootout loss to the Ducks last ​Friday. He was placed on injured ‍reserve two ​days later.

Coach Spencer ​Carbery elaborated on Leonard’s ‍injuries on Thursday, telling reporters that while the forward sustained “some facial injuries,” it was ‍not a head injury or concussion.

Leonard, 20, has 18 ‍points (seven ‍goals, 11 ​assists) in 29 ​games ⁠this season. He ‌was selected by the Capitals with the eighth overall pick of the 2023 NHL Draft.
