ECB survey shows unchanged inflation expectations

FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Consumer expectations for euro zone inflation remained unchanged last month, a European Central Bank survey showed on Friday, indicating that households continue to see price growth just above the ECB’s 2% target for some time to come.

The median expectation for inflation over the next 12 months held at 2.6% while, for three years out, it was steady at 2.4%, the ECB said. However, inflation in the past 12 months was perceived at 3.1%, suggesting that households see a slowdown.

The ECB’s own official projections put inflation just above its 2% target for most of this year before falling to target at the start of 2026.

Consumers remain pessimistic about economic growth, however, anticipating a 1.2% contraction over the next 12 months after seeing a decline of 1.1% in January.
