KYIV (Reuters) – Ukraine’s top general, who visited the northeastern Sumy region on Thursday, said Russian forces were intensifying their actions in the area in attempts to advance.
The Ukrainian military is conducting defensive and assault operations to prevent the enemy from advancing deep into Ukrainian territory, General Oleksandr Syrskyi said on Facebook.
Sumy borders Russia’s Kursk region where Ukrainian forces have struggled in recent weeks to keep hold of Russian territory they captured in a cross-border offensive that began last August.
