MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian police are conducting searches at the offices of the major farming conglomerate Rusagro and questioning its billionaire founder Vadim Moshkovich, Russian news agencies reported on Wednesday.

Interfax news agency quoted a source familiar with the situation as saying that the searches were linked to a criminal investigation into embezzlement. The agency did not provide any details.

After being sanctioned by the West, Moshkovich, Russia’s 55th richest person, according to Forbes, resigned as chairman of Rusagro in 2022, cutting his stake to below 50%. Rusagro is listed on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
