BERLIN (Reuters) – Volkswagen’s unit sales fell by 2.3% in 2024 to just over nine million vehicles, the carmaker reported on Tuesday, after a challenging year in its two key markets of Germany and China.
The carmaker’s sales in its home market fell only marginally by 2.2%, while its China sales were down by 10% amid what it described as a “fierce price war”.
Still, battery-electric sales performed better in China, growing by 8% compared to a 3.4% drop globally.
Volkswagen had revised its sales forecast downwards to around nine million in September because of challenges at its namesake brand, which launched a cost-cutting drive to boost profits amid rising competition and shrinking demand.
