LONDON (Reuters) – Britain’s finance ministry has said its commitment to the government’s fiscal rules is non-negotiable, Sky News reported on Wednesday citing a statement from a Treasury spokesperson issued on a day of market turmoil for sterling and British bonds.
“No one should be under any doubt that meeting the fiscal rules is non-negotiable and the government will have an iron grip on the public finances,” Sky News quoted the statement as saying.
The Treasury did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
