MAPUTO (Reuters) -Daniel Chapo, the candidate of Mozambique’s ruling party Frelimo, won this month’s presidential election, results from the country’s electoral commission showed on Thursday.

Chapo won roughly 70% of the national vote, with independent candidate Venancio Mondlane coming in second with 20% of votes, the commission said.

Frelimo has governed Mozambique since its independence from Portugal in 1975 and has been consistently accused of rigging elections, which it denies.
